Terms of Service — Hero

1. About Hero

Hero is a smart pet identification platform operated by [COMPANY NAME LTD], a company registered in England and Wales (company number [COMPANY NUMBER]), with registered address at [REGISTERED ADDRESS].

Hero provides a physical NFC + QR smart pet tag ("the Tag") and an accompanying digital platform ("the Platform") that enables pet owners to create a digital pet profile accessible to anyone who scans the Tag. The Platform includes optional premium features available through a Hero+ subscription.

2. Accepting these Terms

By creating a Hero account or purchasing a Hero Tag, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our service.

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account and purchase our products. These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

3. Your Account

You are responsible for:

Keeping your login credentials secure
All activity that occurs under your account
Ensuring the information on your pet profiles is accurate and up to date

You may delete your account at any time. Upon deletion, your pet profiles and associated data will be removed within 30 days, except where we are required to retain data by law.

4. The Hero Tag (Hardware)

The Hero Tag is a physical product sold at a one-time price. The Tag is made from silicone and contains NFC and QR technology that links to your pet's digital profile on the Hero Platform.

Price: £19.99 per tag (launch price, subject to change)
Shipping: Free UK delivery. International shipping not currently available
Returns: You have the right to return your Tag within 14 days of receipt for a full refund under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, provided the Tag is unused
Faulty items: If your Tag is faulty or damaged on arrival, contact us within 30 days and we will replace it at no cost

The Tag is splash-resistant but is not certified to any IP waterproofing standard. Avoid prolonged submersion in water.

5. Hero+ — Free Year & Subscription

Hero+ unlocks additional platform features for a pet, including health records (vaccines, checkups, procedures), weight & diet tracking, Herogram (pet photo feed), Finder photo reports, and full scan history.

Free year via Tag activation

Activating a Hero Tag grants 1 year of Hero+ for that specific pet, starting from the date of activation
Each physical Tag grants one free year once, to one pet, ever. Detaching and reactivating the same Tag will not extend or renew the free period
Activating a second Tag (a separate physical Tag, not previously used) for a different pet grants that pet its own 1-year Hero+ period independently

Monthly / annual subscription

Coverage: A subscription covers all pets on your account simultaneously
Pricing: £1.99/month or £14.99/year (approximately 2 months free)
Billing: Subscription fees are billed in advance via Stripe
Cancellation: You may cancel at any time. Access continues until the end of the current billing period. No partial refunds are issued for unused time
Price changes: We will give at least 30 days' notice of any price increase before it takes effect

How the two sources interact

Tag entitlements and subscriptions are independent. If a pet has a remaining free year from Tag activation and you also hold an active subscription, both apply — the pet remains on Hero+ via whichever source is still valid. When a Tag's free year expires, the subscription automatically covers that pet with no gap or action required. Cancelling a subscription does not affect any remaining time from a Tag entitlement.

6. Free Tier

The core Hero service — including pet profile creation, NFC and QR tag scanning, Lost Mode, and email alerts when your tag is scanned in Lost Mode — is free and will remain free. We will not retroactively charge for features that are currently free.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

Use Hero for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law
Upload false, misleading, or harmful content to any pet profile
Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Platform
Use the Platform to harass, stalk, or harm any person
Use automated tools to scrape or extract data from the Platform

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

8. Intellectual Property

Hero and its associated branding, design, and technology are owned by [COMPANY NAME LTD]. You retain ownership of any content you upload (pet photos, profile information). By uploading content, you grant Hero a non-exclusive licence to store and display that content solely for the purpose of operating the Platform.

9. Limitation of Liability

Hero is a communication tool that helps finders contact pet owners. We do not guarantee that a lost pet will be found or returned. Our liability to you for any claim arising from use of Hero is limited to the amount you paid for your Tag or subscription in the 12 months preceding the claim.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.

10. Service Availability

We aim to keep the Hero Platform available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We may occasionally take the service offline for maintenance. In the event that we decide to permanently discontinue the Platform, we will give users at least 90 days' notice and provide a pro-rata refund for any unexpired paid subscription.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or through the Platform at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of Hero after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
